The zip wire seems to be one of the highlights so far! After our final yummy dinner here at PGL the evening activity was a quiz/team challenges.

The children then started to pack up their rooms before lights out. They have been brilliant at night and everyone got another good night's sleep. This morning we enjoyed our final breakfast, finished packing up the rooms and got going with final activities. 4 groups have their raft building session this morning as well as crate challenge. We are aiming to leave at 1.30pm and estimate we'll be back around normal school finishing time. We will send an update later if anything changes.

This morning is dry and there's even been some sunshine. It was a windy day, and a record number of children from local schools attended: 84 girls and 125 boys.

The first race was the girls race , which was slightly longer than the boys' due to a recall of all the girls half way round their first lap! Despite this, Z Wilkins, G Middleton and J Hayes put in an excellent effort in the girls race, and came 38th, 19th and 40th respectively. Well done girls.

Nine boys ran for St Michael's in the boys' race. It was a tight race, with barely anything between the boys positioning. Well done to all the St Michael's boys who took part against some very stiff competition: P Awe, G Curley, J Curtin, D Graham, H Watts, H Webb, M Ujam , D Mularski, and L Hamilton. P Awe and J Curtin did particularly well, positioned 24 and 34 respectively.

It was a great atmosphere at the event and lovely to have so many enthusiastic parents supporting. The running club will continue through November as we prepare for our next Fun Run in January.
http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/images/news/Running_Club.jpgWed, 18 Oct 2017 09:58:24 GMTYr.6 - PGL Wednesdayhttp://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-10-18-yr-6-pgl-wednesdayhttp://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-10-18-yr-6-pgl-wednesday
PGL - Wednesday

Tuesday afternoon groups 1-4 did the Trapeze. Lots of flying fun! After a rest and a hot meal the evening activity was PGL Sports Night. The first full day of activities certainly tired the children out so we had a bit of an earlier night and some rooms even turned their own lights out! This morning's breakfast of sausages, tomatoes and hash browns was a popular choice and has set the children up for another busy (and possibly rather wet) day. This morning is Vertical Challenge and Tunnel Trail.

This morning's Vertical Challenge and Tunnel Trail went very well. A few teachers even gave the tunnels a try with the help of their group. It was a rather damp morning so we're pleased the rest of the day is looking dry. Fish fingers and chips was a popular lunch choice today and helped everyone to warm up. After lunch we visited the shop to buy souvenirs and sweets. This afternoon we have archery and climbing.

Archery and Climbing went well on Wednesday afternoon. Lots of children scaled the wall to ring the bell at the top of the climbing tower. Meatball pasta and lasagne were a favourite dinner choice, followed by Angel Delight which had a mixed reaction. The evening activity was 'Splash', which to the children's relief did not involve them getting wet. They completed team tasks (including the highest shoe tower) to earn points. They then exchanged their points for materials to protect a water balloon. Their creations were then dropped from the second floor to see if their balloon survived; we were very impressed that some did! The children were really good again at bedtime and fell asleep quickly after another full day of activities.

http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/images/1024x1024s/news/Ladder.jpgWed, 18 Oct 2017 09:47:46 GMTYr.6 - PGL Tuesdayhttp://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-10-17-yr-6-pgl-tuesdayhttp://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-10-17-yr-6-pgl-tuesday
PGL - Tuesday Morning

We all slept well and enjoyed a yummy breakfast. I think it must have been one of the best behaved groups (plus interested, enthusiastic. co-operative etc) that I have had the pleasure to accompany. They all got on so well, I cant remember a single argument or disagreement between them. The way they amused themselves during that hour on Wednesday on the adventure playground when the coach didn't turn up was amazing. because any malware such as ransomware could spread to that, too.

Further excellent advice and technical guidance has been issued by the National Cyber Security Centre and can be found here at :

https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/guidance/ransomware-latest-ncsc-guidance

If you have been affected by ransomware, please report it straight away via the cyber crime reporting portal at Action Fraud:

http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/report-a-fraud-including-online-crime
http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/images/news/Computer_Keyboard.jpgThu, 18 May 2017 11:59:04 GMTInformation - Be Tick Aware!http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-05-15-information-be-tick-awarehttp://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-05-15-information-be-tick-aware
Be Tick Aware!

Now that it's the time of year for school trips and visits we would like to make all parents are aware of what to do if your child gets a tick bite.

Ticks are found in moist areas of dense vegetation or long grass in woodland, grassland, moorland, heathland and some urban parks and gardens. They can be found throughout the year, but are most active between spring and autumn.

Ticks can transmit bacteria that cause diseases, such as Lyme disease, which can lead to very serious conditions if left untreated. Tick bites often go unnoticed, and the tick can remain feeding for several days before dropping off. The longer the tick is in place, the higher the risk of it passing on the infection.

Ticks can attach themselves to an animal or person as they brush by. The best way to avoid being bitten by ticks when you are in wooded or heath areas known to have a high tick population such as the New Forest is by:

Keeping to footpaths and avoiding long grass when out walking.

Wearing appropriate clothing in tick-infested areas (a long sleeve shirt and trousers tucked into your socks)

Using insect repellents

Making sure that ticks are not brought home on your clothes - wearing light coloured fabrics that may help you spot a tick on your clothes

Remove the tick as soon as possible

The only safe way to remove a tick is to use a pair of fine tipped tweezers, or an east to use device which can be purchased from all good retailers

Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Pull upwards slowly and firmly as mouthparts left in the skin can cause a local infection

Once removed, apply antiseptic to the bit area and keep an eye on it for several weeks for any changes

Contact your GP if you begin to feel unwell and remember to tell them if you were bitten by a tick.

NHS Choices offers more information on signs, symptoms and treatments for Lyme disease.

http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/images/news/Tick.jpgMon, 15 May 2017 10:35:25 GMTLibrary Competition - May 2017http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-05-05-library-competition-may-2017http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-05-05-library-competition-may-2017
Library Competition - May 2017

This month we are asking for the pupils to design a bookmark.

The winner will be announced in assembly on 26th May. Entries should be given to Mrs Carpenter by 24th May please.
http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/images/news/Design_a_bookmark.pngFri, 05 May 2017 13:50:10 GMTExtreme Reading - Winners!http://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-05-05-extreme-reading-winnershttp://stmichaelscejunior.co.uk/news/latest/2017-05-05-extreme-reading-winners
Extreme Reading - Competition Winners

To get the children excited about reading during the Easter holidays we launched a whole school ‘Extreme Reading’
